Picture frame made from old magazines
If you have a large picture frame and you want to make it more visible, you can make this beautiful frame, which you can paint with an ocher color to make it appear old in the best vintage style , or cover it with more vivid colors to achieve a more youthful decoration.
Materials:
- Old magazines (3 or 4)
- Large photo frame (1)
- Knitting needles (2)
- White glue
- Brush
- Water
- Paint (color to taste)
- Varnish
- Gun and silicone
How it is performed:
- First, mix equal parts white glue and water (half a cup of each).
- Then take the sheets from the magazines and cut them into rectangles: the length of the sheet and about 10 cm wide.
- Subsequently, place the knitting needle on the base of one of the rectangles of the magazine sheets in a diagonal direction to it and wind the needle obliquely. The idea would be to wrap the entire needle with that piece of magazine.
- Go covering with the mixture, with the help of the brush, so that it remains firm.
- Once we have the needle wrapped, remove it at one end.
- Repeat the procedure until 24 strips of paper are obtained.
- Glue the strips around the frame. With silicone, glue 6 parallel strips on each side of the picture frame.
How to paint:
- Paint in the chosen color.
- Let dry.
- Give a coat of varnish to keep it better and for a longer time.
Baskets with old magazines
You can make these practical baskets that pretend to be made of wood or wicker. They are ideal for storing towels, paper rolls, accessories, or even food. You simply have to put a cloth cloth inside and that’s it. In addition, they help to keep things in order and, at the same time, to decorate the place.
Materials:
- Cardboard box of the size you want the basket
- Magazine sheets (approximately 40 sheets)
- White glue
- Water
- Brush
- Gun and silicone
- Paints: white, ocher and brown
- Kitchen paper
- Varnish
How it is performed:
- To begin, take the cardboard box and remove the lid.
- Then take the pages of the magazine and divide them in two lengthwise, so that there are two rectangles. Cut them so that we get two separate rectangles.
- Take one of those rectangles and fold it in the middle (always lengthwise); mark that middle line well.
- Open the rectangle of the magazine sheet and bring the ends to that middle line.
- Fold right along that middle line. In other words, the edges of the sheet will be turned in.
- Stick with glue.
- Repeat the procedure with all the leaves until you get many plasters.
- Next, take the box and with silicone and stick the strips so that they are parallel or horizontal, according to the taste of each one.
- Cover the entire box.
- Make a mixture of half a cup of water and half a cup of glue.
- Cover the entire box with this mixture and let it dry for 12 hours. This will give the basket firmness and firmness.
How to paint:
- Paint the entire box white, in order to cover the colors of the magazine sheets.
- Let dry.
- Give a second coat of paint, but this time in ocher color.
- Again let it dry.
- After giving a coat of brown paint and, before it dries, pass the kitchen paper to try to remove it. You will notice that the brown paint is gone, but some of it will be trapped between the plasters. This is how the wood effect is achieved.
- Let dry.
- Finally give a coat of varnish to give it consistency and shine.
