Baked Turkey And Mushroom Meatballs
Meatballs are one of the most common meals in the home. They are usually made with ground beef, or mixed with beef, pork, turkey, chicken, and beef. There are also meatballs made with fish meat. And although they are all succulent, turkey meatballs have a great advantage, and that is that, being made with the thigh of the bird, they have practically no fat.
Regarding the nutritional contribution of turkey meat, this comes to be like this: every 100 grams provides about 20 grams of protein, approximately. In addition, it contains essential nutrients for the body such as: iron, calcium, iodine, magnesium, potassium, zinc, and vitamins of group B (B12, B2, B3, and B6).
Here is a delicious recipe for turkey meatballs with which you can enjoy the food of your choice. And, although we propose a batter based on bread, egg and milk, you can substitute it with others. The important thing is that the meatballs are crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Go for it!
Turkey meatballs and mushrooms
Ingredients for the meatballs
- 1 large onion
- ¼ glass of white wine (50 ml)
- ⅓ cup of shitake mushrooms (50 g)
- 1 tray of mushrooms (150 g)
- 2 tablespoons of mushroom flour (30 g)
- Minced turkey drumstick (300 g)
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil (30 ml)
- ½ glass of vegetable or poultry broth (100 ml)
- Seasonings: salt, garlic powder, dried thyme.
- Optional: fresh parsley.
Ingredients for the sauce
- 1 small onion
- 3 garlic cloves
- 1 can of whole peeled tomato (500 g)
- ¼ cup of grated Parmesan cheese (50 g)
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil (15 ml)
- Seasonings: salt, bay leaf, thyme, basil, oregano, white pepper.
Ingredients for the batter
- 1 medium egg
- 2 cups of stale bread crumbs (100 g)
- Optional: whole milk
Preparation
- We clean the champignons and mushrooms well and proceed to cut them into slices. We booked.
- In a bowl, pour the milk and place the soaked breadcrumbs there to soften them.
- We break the egg and beat until the yolk and white are completely integrated. We add the egg to the milk and the breadcrumbs.
- We wash and drain the minced meat well to eliminate the remains of blood.
- In another bowl, mix the salt, pepper, parsley, grated Parmesan cheese, mushroom flour, mushrooms, mushrooms and minced meat. Finally, we add the vegetable broth to hydrate the mixture of ingredients.
- Let it rest for a minute and mix well to integrate everything that will make up the meatballs.
- We preheat the oven to 180 ºC.

- Before placing them on the baking sheet, we soak each meatball in the egg, milk and bread mixture.

- Meanwhile, we prepare the sauce for the turkey meatballs as follows: sauté the onion and garlic in a saucepan with a tablespoon of olive oil; We process the tomato and add it when the onion is golden. Season and reserve until the meatballs are ready.
- Once the meatballs have finished cooking, we place them in the casserole with the sauce and let them cook there, over low heat, for 15 minutes. During this time, the sauce should have reduced and thickened considerably.
- We add the white wine and let it evaporate.
- We turn off the fire and serve.

Turkey meatballs can be served with a beet salad or any other type of green side. Of course, if we are looking for a garnish that gives us a greater energy intake, we can resort to some delicious baked potatoes with coarse salt, a sweet potato or carrot puree, or a light contour of brown rice.
The great advantage of baked turkey and mushroom meatballs is that they can be enjoyed as a dinner, as it is a low-fat preparation that will not be too heavy for the night or contribute to weight gain.
