On this occasion, we want to share a couple of recipes, so that you can make your own liquid hand soap.
Why make liquid hand soap?
The idea of preparing liquid soap for the hands arises from the need to use this product for the care and disinfection of the hands. It should be noted that they are also more environmentally friendly.
One of the main advantages of making it at home is that you can reuse natural ingredients. For that reason, they are free of fragrances or chemicals typical of commercial soaps.
In addition, with the homemade liquid soap you avoid allergies and irritations, since the components it contains are very gentle on the skin. It also reduces the presence of skin disorders such as dryness or dermatitis.
Lemon Liquid Hand Soap
This recipe contains glycerin, a substance that helps maintain the skin’s natural pH balance to keep it smooth.
In this case, we choose lemon essential oil as a fragrance, although you can also choose other scents that have antibacterial properties. To make this liquid hand soap you need the following.
Ingredients
- 2 liters of water.
- 1 plastic bottle with dispenser.
- 10 drops of lemon essential oil.
- 2 glasses of leftover bar soap (400 g).
- 1 tablespoon of pure glycerin (10 g).
How to prepare it?
To start, take the remains of the bar of soap you have and grate them into small flakes. Then, bring half the water to a boil in a saucepan and leave it over medium heat. To continue, when it is hot, add the grated soap and the tablespoon of glycerin.
Stir well so that everything is well dissolved and turn it off after a few minutes. When the mixture cools, add the lemon essential oil and stir again. Next, pour the liquid into a dropper bottle and place it in a cool, dry place.
The liquid soap that you have just prepared will last you in perfect condition for up to six months.
Liquid oil soap
This homemade alternative is ideal to take full advantage of the remaining olive or sunflower oil.
However, unlike the previous option, this liquid soap can only be used after a month from its preparation. This is because it contains caustic soda, a substance that is aggressive with the skin.
For its manipulation the use of gloves and masks is required. It is also advisable to prepare it in a well ventilated room that allows the gases that are released to dissipate.
An important recommendation is to measure its pH before using it. In this way, it can be verified that it is ideal for the skin.
Ingredients
- 3 liters of water.
- 1 ½ cup of used sunflower or olive oil (375 ml).
- 7 ½ tablespoons of caustic soda (75 g).
- 1 teaspoon of salt (5 g).
- Essential oil (aroma to taste).
Preparation
The first thing you have to do is mix the caustic soda with the water. To do this you must be very careful not to inhale the gases it releases. You should also not come into contact with the reaction mixture.
Stir well with a wooden spoon until the soda flakes are well dissolved. Then gradually add the oil you are going to use, previously strained. Always stir in the same direction.
To continue, add the salt and also a few drops of the essential oil that you have chosen as a scent. Put the mixture in a bottle with a dispenser, shake it twice a day and leave it uncovered in a cool place without light.
After the recommended time of one month, more essential oil can be added to enhance its smell.
