Hydrating drinks to fight headaches

A study published in the Headache Magazine in 2004 concluded that, despite the lack of scientific literature on the matter, there would be a relationship between water deprivation (or dehydration) and migraine.

In addition, a 2015 clinical trial determined that drinking water would help combat headaches. Although the data was not conclusive, we shared with you some recipes to prepare hydrating and rich drinks at home.

1. Grapefruit (grapefruit) and ginger drink

Ingredients

  • The juice of two grapefruits.
  • A glass of water (250 ml).
  • 25 grams of grated ginger.
  • 2 fresh mint leaves
  • 15 grams of baking soda.

Elaboration

This rich drink combines the nutrients of grapefruit, such as vitamin C, carotenoids and potassium, with the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of ginger. On the other hand, sodium bicarbonate helps to rehydrate, as observed in the results of a 2014 investigation.

To prepare it, you just have to get the juice of the two grapefruits. Meanwhile, make an infusion with the ginger and mint leaves with the glass of water.

Once this infusion is obtained, add the teaspoon of bicarbonate and mix the entire mixture well. Finally, strain the drink and add the grapefruit juice. Stir well and sweeten, if desired, with a little honey.

2. Strawberry and lemon hydrating drink

Ingredients

  • 10 strawberries
  • The juice of a lemon and its peel.
  • A glass of water (250 ml).

Elaboration

A study from The Journal of Basic & Applied Zoology suggested that lemon extract would have anti-inflammatory properties that would help improve symptoms of arthritis and other inflammatory diseases. Added to the contribution of water and vitamins of the strawberry, it can be a good option to drink when you suffer from a headache.

To prepare this juice, bring a glass of water to a boil. Once it is very hot, add the cleaned strawberries and the lemon peel. Then let it cook for 20 minutes. After that time, remove the lemon peels and add the juice.

Then, pass this drink through the blender. The strawberries will be combined in a refreshing and healthy smoothie. Add some ice cubes and just enjoy!

3. Hydrating orange and cinnamon drink

Ingredients

  • The juice of two oranges and their peels.
  • A glass of water (250 ml).
  • A stick of cinnamon.
  • 20 grams of honey.
  • Some ice cubes.

Elaboration

Orange provides water, vitamin C and carotenoids with provitamin A activity, while cinnamon, as has been proven by different studies, adds an anti-inflammatory effect. The same is true of honey, which exhibits anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Prepare the juice of the two oranges. Next, bring the glass of water to boil and also add the orange peels and the cinnamon stick. Let it cook for 20 minutes. After that time, turn off the heat and then let it rest for about 10 minutes.

Once that time has passed, remove the orange peels and the cinnamon stick, and add the juice of the two oranges and honey. Serve it in a large glass where you can include a few ice cubes.
