How To Regulate Blood Sugar With Ceylon Cinnamon
To prepare this remedy to control diabetes, we must make sure to use Ceylon cinnamon, since the rest do not have their properties and do not provide us with the same Benefits.
Today, our blood sugar levels are easily altered, especially by excessive consumption of sweets, excess of refined carbohydrates and, in general, poor diet. Fortunately, there are some foods with diuretic properties that can help us balance them, such as Ceylon cinnamon.
Next, we will discuss in more detail how this spice helps regulate blood sugar levels, naturally.
Ceylon cinnamon
Cinnamon was consumed and used in China as early as 2700 BC. C. and, later, the Egyptians imported it along with other spices. In Greece and Rome it was also used for digestive purposes and also in Ayurvedic medicine in India.
It came to the West, initially, as an exotic luxury product. For this reason, Ceylon cinnamon was a product that only the wealthiest people could access. However, with the passage of time its consumption became popular and, today, it is a common product in our kitchen.
3 powerful reasons
Ceylon cinnamon is an excellent natural remedy for three reasons:
- Helps regulate blood sugar.
- It helps to normalize insulin levels, therefore, Ceylon cinnamon helps us fight resistance to this hormone that many people suffer and that causes disorders such as overweight, cholesterol and high triglycerides.
- Improves glucose metabolism in the liver, which is impaired in all types of diabetes.
In addition to these reasons, there are studies that confirm that Ceylon cinnamon could be beneficial in treating patients with type 2 diabetes.
Not all cinnamon is the same
It is essential for our treatment that we use Ceylon cinnamon ( Cinnamomum zeylanicum or Cinnamomum verum ), which is the one with the most medicinal properties, although its flavor is not the most powerful.
It should be noted that, although Chinese cinnamon ( Cinnamomum cassia ) is also used, it can cause some side effects. In fact, its consumption is not recommended for patients with diabetes.
How do we introduce it into our diet?
If we want to regulate our blood sugar levels, we should resort to capsules or tablets that guarantee us a specific daily dose, always after consulting the doctor, of course.
Now, if what we want is to prevent the spikes caused by excessive consumption of sweets, we can acquire the good habit of seasoning our meals with cinnamon. We give you some ideas:
- Cinnamon combines well with most sweets, so we can add it to all kinds of cakes, cakes, cookies, crepes, muffins, etc.
- We can also use it to flavor ice cream and dairy desserts (yogurt, curd, flan). It combines very well with some flavors such as cocoa, vanilla, coconut, milk or cream.
- This spice is also incorporated into some meat and fish stew sauces to give a different and intense flavor and, at the same time, improve its digestibility.
- We cannot stop adding cinnamon to our infusions, shakes and chocolate drinks and other flavors.
- In several stores you can find the essential oil of cinnamon, which has a topical and oral use; as long as it is of good quality and so specified. It should not be confused with synthetic essences.
